My memory begins in 1968. That year, when I was six years old, my father took our whole family from Shandong to Guandong. My family came to Guandong with only one purpose, to find a way to survive. In Harbin, my dad had a buddy who grew up naked. Dad asked me to call him Fourth Uncle. I only remember that the fourth uncle wore a black fur dog skin hat on his head. I feel cold when I see a hat like that. The fourth uncle is an electrician. He is in his thirties and has not yet started a family. He took us to the outskirts of Harbin and found a job for his father as a helper on a farm. He said that he would make do with his daily life first, and then change places when the opportunity arose. Not long after we lived there, Mom died. The day my mother died, I didn't cry. I was just cold. Looking at the snowflakes flying in the sky, I just wanted to find a warm place to warm myself up by the fire.
