The book is divided into two parts. The first part systematically sorts out the research on Balzac by French writers and scholars such as Hugo, Saint-Beuve, Proust, Mauroya, and Butor. Then it expands its horizons to the world, mainly introducing representative countries such as German-speaking countries, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, and China. The second part focuses on the study of this French writer; based on the previous part, the second part selects ten important sub-fields in Balzac research, introduces some representative research results, and puts forward the academic viewpoints of Chinese scholars, striving to provide a new rationale for the development of Balzac research.
