This book mainly discusses the interactions between Mr. Chen Yuan and Mr. Gu Jiegang, their contribution and influence on modern Chinese history, and their training of students. Among the great modern historians, Chen Yuan and Gu Jiegang both valued historical materials, documents, and textual research. However, their research fields were different and their academic methods were very different. Therefore, they were rarely mentioned together, and researchers in the past did not pay much attention to the exchanges and interactions between them. By carefully combing through the "Complete Works of Gu Jiegang" and "The Complete Works of Chen Yuan", we can find that Chen Yuan and Gu Jiegang had close contacts, and their academic research also formed a synergy to a certain extent. They jointly made an indelible contribution to the establishment of a scientific, modern, historical material-led Chinese history discipline, and at the same time cultivated the next generation of mainstays in the field of history.
