The book consists of fifty literary essays, which respectively discuss the general principles of article writing, writing standards and basic requirements of various literary styles, and evaluate important writers and important works from the pre-Qin to the Southern Dynasties, Song and Qi Dynasties. It occupies an important position in the history of Chinese literary criticism. This edition of "The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons" was translated in full by the late Professor Wang Gengsheng of Taiwan Normal University.
