The fourteen papers included in this book were written from 1997 to the present on the basis of field surveys and historical documents. Most of the articles first participated in the International Hakka Symposium, the Cross-Strait Hakka Summit Forum and other Hakka seminars. After extensive listening to the opinions of Hakka colleagues, they were revised and published in academic journals such as Ethnic Studies and World Religion Studies.

Based on fieldwork in 64 villages in northern Wuping County, western Fujian, combined with relevant literature, this book provides a panoramic and three-dimensional description and discussion of the society and culture of the Hakka villages in Wubei, western Fujian, from the perspective of the center and the periphery, focusing on ancestor worship, god worship, and market transactions.
