Shortly after the end of World War II, conflicts in ideology, strategic goals, and strategic interests between the United States and the Soviet Union soon led to the beginning of the Cold War. From 1947 to 1991, the two major camps led by the United States and the Soviet Union engaged in comprehensive confrontation in all aspects of economy, politics, and military. During this period, the United States' policy towards the Soviet Union was mainly competition and confrontation, weakening and containing the Soviet Union through various methods and channels, thereby seeking its own absolute security.
