In 770 BC, King Ping of Zhou moved the capital from Haojing to Luoyi. Because Haojing is in the west, the period when the capital of the Zhou Dynasty was in Haojing was historically called the Western Zhou Dynasty; Luoyi was in the east, so the period after King Ping moved eastward and before Qin unified China was called the Eastern Zhou Dynasty.
