Xu Chuguang (1909-1948), also known as Xu Zufang, was from Xishui, Hubei. In 1926, he was admitted to the fifth batch of Whampoa Military Academy Wuhan Branch. Joined the Communist Party of China in 1927. After 1929, he engaged in the work of instigating rebellion by the Kuomintang army. In 1941, he served as staff instructor of the first branch of Yan'an Anti-Japanese University. In 1942, he broke into Wang Puppet Government and served as Colonel Secretary of the Intelligence Bureau of the Political Department of the Military Commission. In 1946, he served as director of the Third Working Committee of the Central China Branch of the CPC Central Committee. He was arrested in Wuhan in September 1947, moved to Nanjing, and died in October 1948.
