The modern animal protection movement was born in Britain in the 19th century. Animals are widely used for labor, medical experiments, and performances, and they meet people's commercial and entertainment needs. However, in the eyes of protectors, animals are weak and unfairly treated. Opponents and supporters, radicals and conservatives, have launched a century-long struggle. This book tells the story of animal rights activists who actively "appropriate" various traditions - the political tradition that cares about fairness, justice and social liberation, the natural history tradition that recognizes biological diversity, the evolutionary tradition that believes that living things are related, the literary tradition that expresses emotions as animal friends... And then appeals to the public for support. This movement promoted the popularization and legislation of animal protection concepts, and also reflected the evolution of modern British society, culture, and ideological trends.
