This book focuses on the magazine "Fashion", and also refers to magazines such as "Black Cat", "New Left Bank", "Lytes", "Wallonia" and "Courier Française" to study the rise and fall of symbolist free verse. Symbolist free verse is under the control of the two forces of anarchism and nationalism. It is not only a complex of freedom and rules, but also a complex of individual consciousness and collective consciousness.

This book conducts an in-depth study of symbolism both vertically and horizontally. The first four chapters diachronically sort out the history of the emergence, evolution, and decline of the Symbolism genre, and describe the influence of Symbolism in Europe and the United States. The last four chapters focus on synchronic and comprehensive research, mainly exploring the mysticism, musical aesthetics, free verse theory and cultural background of symbolism.

This book divides the free verse theory in Britain and the United States from 1908 to 1923, and proposes a three-stage theory of creation, adjustment and return. It also analyzes the modern aesthetics, French poetics, East Asian poetry aesthetics and other resources behind the British and American free verse theory.
