This book collects Jia Zhangke's articles, speeches, and conversations from 2008 to 2016. These texts, which are parallel to his film works, record his life and thoughts inside and outside the film, as well as his care and reflection on historical and social drastic changes, presenting a broader and deeper background of his life, and also revealing the origin and destiny of his films. In the film, Jia Zhangke records individuals who were disturbed by politics in the great era and life details forgotten by time, stares at individuals who were thrown to the margins by power and economic interests in the era of drastic changes, and narrates the joys and sorrows of ordinary people in the surreal economic movement. Putting down the camera and picking up the pen, Jia Zhangke bid farewell to his youth in the thick smoke, but he felt sad countless times. His thoughts drifted back to the streets of Fenyang and the alleys of Beijing, thinking of the teenagers in the county and their bored youth.
