This is an urban emotional novel that spans many years, centered on the writer Li Quan, showing his delicate situation between marriage, family and past emotions. The story begins in 2018. When Li Quan got an important job opportunity, he unexpectedly reunited with his first love Bai Ruoling after nine years of separation. This reunion disturbed the peaceful life in which he and his wife Yang Zhixia had worked hand in hand for eight years and raised their daughter Jingyan. The novel unfolds in a dual-line narrative of "present" and "past". In the current timeline, Li Quan is struggling with career opportunities, family responsibilities and inner turmoil; the past timeline slowly reveals the campus romance full of talent and regret, as well as the marriage process between him and Yang Zhixia, from unexpected encounter to hasty union, and how they have grown up with each other over the years. Daughter Jingyan, with her innocent and keen perspective, observes and connects the stories of her parents, becoming an important emotional link between the family. The work uses calm and delicate brushstrokes to penetrate into the texture of daily life, depicting the inner world of the characters in ordinary scenes of daily necessities, work pressure and children's education. It explores the different forms of love: hot but perishable first love, plain but tenacious staying together, and the fetters of family ties connected by blood. The novel does not exaggerate intense dramatic conflicts, but focuses on the true state of mind of ordinary people when faced with choices, responsibilities, regrets, and growth. It ultimately leads readers to think about whether the so-called "ordinary life" is based on compromise, or on the deep understanding and cherishment of ordinary possessions after going through ups and downs.
