Shen Zhiyuan, a 36-year-old college lecturer, goes to the convenience store outside the east gate of the university every morning to buy a cup of hot coffee. Twenty-year-old Lin Xia works the night shift there. She didn't go to university, but she always stood close to the university. They didn't get close passionately, but slowly remembered each other during the nights they spent buying coffee, making change, handing out receipts, and repairing umbrellas.
