Hui Yishen

60K6.79

This is a rare masterpiece of oral history. The narrator, Ms. Tang Shixia, was the first wife of Pu Jie, the brother of the last emperor Pu Yi, the niece of the famous concubines Zhen and Jin, and a close friend of the last empress Wanrong and the last imperial concubine Wenxiu. She was one of the last members of the royal family to leave the Forbidden City at the end of the Qing Dynasty. This oral history details the rise and fall of the Tara family of Tang Shixia and his concubines Zhen and Jin. It introduces little-known details of life in the Qing palace, and especially reveals the role of the Japanese military and political elite in organizing the establishment of the Puppet Manchukuo. On this occasion, the plot to force Pu Jie to divorce her and remarry Saga Hiroshi, a descendant of the Japanese aristocracy, was to enable the next emperor of the puppet Manchukuo to have Japanese ancestry after the heirless Pu Yi stepped down, thereby fully controlling China. In addition, this oral history also describes Tang Shixia's high achievements and attainments in painting and poetry, and provides a detailed explanation of her teaching life at the University of Hong Kong in her later years. The historical facts and unique experiences stated in the book can provide valuable reference data for future generations to study past history.
