The collection of essays "Thatched Cottage of Educated Youth" tells the story of the author's encounters, feelings and insights when he went to the countryside to become an educated youth. The people, scenes, and events in the collection are of course more than forty years old. Although certain chapters have been artistically processed as needed, it does not affect the colorful memories of that generation. But the people, the scenery, and the things are still beautiful and lush.

The lights suddenly came on in a long-abandoned barber shop in the town. Under the flickering light, the dead landlady was twisting her body. Under her body were patches of dark red blood, like blooming roses. She was lying quietly on the grass by the river, as if lying on a large Northeast flower quilt. When the women in the town saw her, they all scolded her. When the men in the town saw him, they felt sorry for him.
