The cofferdam of the third phase of the Three Gorges Dam project is scheduled to be blasted at 4 pm on June 6, 2006. This operation, which is called the "world's first explosion", will blow up a 480-meter-long, 30-meter-high concrete weir with a total volume of 186,700 cubic meters, which is equivalent to blowing up 400 ten-story buildings.
