The story in this article is adapted from the true story of Cheng Lianzhen, a beautiful female bandit from the Buyi ethnic group in Guizhou who was pardoned by Mao Zedong. In 1950, the bandits in southeastern Guizhou still dominated the mountains and harmed the people. A group of bandits headed by Zheng Yaomei attacked the newly-established people's power and killed innocent villagers. Our Southwest Liberation Army used 100,000 troops to carry out a comprehensive suppression of bandits in the Sichuan-Guizhou region. Most of the bandit gangs were surrounded and annihilated. Zheng Yaomei absconded and was eventually captured. Later, with Chairman Mao's instructions, he was granted amnesty.
