Star Ember

Star Ember

Short Fiction

Gu Tao Jian Nian

13K0

In the ruined studio in District 7, Li Yan, who has long light blue hair, is always mixing paint in star crystal powder. He smiled cynically, his fingertips were stained with colorful colors, and his voice trailed off lazily, like a fox carrying a secret - but only he knew that that crazy skin was a deliberately trained armor to wrap up the cold tears that had frozen in his heart when his mother Suman died in an experimental accident seven years ago. His mother's death dug a hole in his heart. He was picking star crystal fragments from the bricks of the Gu family villa, and his fingernails were bleeding. He repeatedly rubbed the lines of the fox fragments, as if he were touching his mother's fingerprints. This search is not so much about revenge as it is about holding on to the last connection with the mother. Until Mu Che appeared, that desire quietly shifted: he waited for the other person in the studio until late at night, the amount of sugar in the hot cocoa was exactly the same, and he protected the person behind him in dangerous moments, even if he was shot in the arm. But the guns of the special handling department, the confrontation in the interrogation room, and the shadow cast by the general star crystal made this dependence a dangerous game. When Mu Che's gun was pointed at him, he could clearly see the pain covered in the other person's eyes; when Wuxu's chains wore his wrists apart, he realized that there was some coldness that could not be melted by warmth. He used paint to draw star trails on the ruins, used jokes to protect his heart with power, and used love to build a floating bridge out of despair. It's just that in the unfinished painting, the escaping blue is no match for the thick black. Even the "I love you" in the mouth has become a lip language that no one can understand.
