This book is based on the survey and mapping of the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in 1954 by the Southwest Military Region Surveying and Mapping Brigade. Shortly after the establishment of the autonomous prefecture, and just over a year after the "Battle of Blackwater" ended, there were Kuomintang stragglers in the autonomous prefecture that disrupted the mapping work. On the one hand, the story tells the rivalry between surveying and mapping comrades and the Kuomintang, and on the other hand, it tells the conflict between the two protagonists Zuo Jin and Liu Lai. The protagonists have distinct personalities. The story is not only accompanied by tense battles and happy life scenes, but also interspersed with the love stories of Zuo Jin and Jin Yu, Liu Lai and Bi Qi, praising the vast number of soldiers who work hard to complete surveying and mapping tasks under difficult conditions.
