Deep within the exposed structure, a tangled, dark red tube was vaguely visible. "These are the cicada's gonads," I explained. As I explained, I used the edge of the bucket to scrape the sticky dirt off the surface of the shovel. "My daughter, you have always been very smart and always got A's in school. Now, let me test you," I turned to my daughter. The shovel pointed at the huge pair of broken membrane wings covered in mucus, "Tell me about this. What's their use?"
