The novel is based on the Xiamen prison robbery led by the Communist Party in May 1930. It reflects one aspect of China's revolutionary struggle from 1927 to 1936, and portrays the images of a group of revolutionary intellectuals with communist ideals and patriotism, including Li Yue, He Jianping, Ding Xiuwei, and Wu Qi. Under the leadership of the underground party, the struggle achieved extraordinary victory and successfully rescued more than 40 comrades.

This book takes the activities of the Xiamen Associated Press as a clue and ends with the Xiamen Prison Heist. It truly shows the Chinese revolutionary situation around the 1930s, as well as the ideological and political outlook of the vast number of intellectuals, and successfully portrays the images of different types of intellectuals. In the 1930s, in Xiamen, a small island city, a group of passionate young people formed the "Xiamen United News Agency" under the leadership of the party to carry out anti-feudal and anti-colonial propaganda struggles. Due to the betrayal of the traitors, He Jianping, Wu Jian and others were arrested and imprisoned successively. In order to rescue their comrades in prison, the party members led by Li Yue and Ding Xiuwei, with the help of the hero Wu Qi and the Kuomintang prison elder Yao and others who had penetrated into the enemy's interior, cooperated internally and externally, staged a riot, breached the enemy's prison in one fell swoop, and successfully joined the large forces.
