This book is arranged chronologically and divides Wang Anshi's life into six parts: "before and after he became an official", "transferred to a prefecture and county", "became an official in Beijing", "taught in mourning", "reformed in power", and "retired to Zhongshan". At the beginning of each part, Wang Anshi's deeds, ideological characteristics, creative style, etc. During this period are introduced in detail to give readers an overall understanding. Then some of the most representative works are selected, each piece is annotated in detail, and comments are made. The comments include not only the creative background, allusions, and morals, but also some basic literary techniques, so that readers can understand the artistry and ideological nature of the works.
