In the parallel world "Dusty Blue Star", the "Grey Plague Corpse Tide" broke out fifty years ago. Most of the civilization was reduced to wasteland, and the survivors huddled in a few "barrier cities" to survive. The technology is slightly higher than it is now: there are exoskeleton armors, energy rifles, suspended transport vehicles, intelligent robots, and holographic terminals, but resources are scarce and the vast majority of people are still struggling for three meals a day and a few "residence points."
