This book authentically selects the letters and diaries of a group of Beijing educated youths and their families who joined the team in Yan'an. These diaries and letters are like clear psychological maps, illuminating the mental journey experienced by the educated youth and serving as a door for readers to enter the spiritual world of the educated youth. A common feature of personal diaries and private letters is their privacy, and it is this privacy that makes them authentic and reliable. Although the diaries and letters we have selected are deeply marked by that era and filled with the discourse system of that era, we have reason to believe that the beliefs expressed in these diaries and letters are sincere and the emotions are sincere. No matter how naive or absurd, we can understand a real history from it, and while reflecting on history, we can also appreciate the value of human faith and spirit.
