"Life and the Spiritual World in Han Paintings" is one of the "Image Culture History" series projects of the "14th Five-Year Plan" of the Institute of Ancient History, Chinese Academy of History. The book selects more than 300 outstanding portrait bricks from the Han Dynasty that have both historical and cultural value and artistic appreciation value. Through the rich historical information retained in the Han portrait bricks and portrait stones, it constructs the social history and folk belief world of the Han Dynasty, involving myths and legends, transportation, wars, historical stories, astronomy, hunting, agriculture, and beliefs. The world, entertainment, food, spiritual outlook and other subdivided areas embody the confident, strong, enterprising, and magnanimous spiritual outlook of the Han nation in its rising period. While appreciating the charm of Han portrait culture and art, it also provides us with a broader and unique knowledge perspective for a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the social culture of the two Han Dynasties.
