On September 24, 2011, an academic seminar on the theory and practice of Western new cultural history and Chinese social and cultural history was held in Beijing, sponsored by the Research Center for Modern Chinese Social and Cultural History, School of History, Capital Normal University. More than 30 experts and scholars from Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Taiyuan and other places launched a comprehensive and in-depth discussion around the theoretical and practical issues of Western new cultural history and Chinese social and cultural history. The more than 20 papers included in this book are the theoretical results of this academic conference.

The social and cultural history that emerged in China has gone through a thirty-year process from 1988 to 2018. This book pays attention to its development status in the four years from 2015 to 2018. The main perspective still focuses on three parts: theory and method, book preface and book review, and academic review. The academic vision, direction and academic interests of Chinese social and cultural history are diverse, and the social and cultural history originated in China is only a part of it. I hope that the efforts and progress in this part can contribute to the overall development of Chinese social and cultural history.
