This book is a revised version of "Contemporary Chinese Foreign Literature Research", with added content from 2009 to 2019. Looking at the study of foreign literature in the seventy years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, there are two main facts: first, the Soviet model was basically followed in the first seventeen years, but Western literature and cultural traditions were somewhat partial; second, in the last forty years, the "things were reversed", and the large influx of Western literature hit the Chinese literary world unprecedentedly, and provided some kind of leading role in emancipating the mind and bringing order to chaos; without foreign literary theories suddenly appearing around us, Chinese literature would not have been able to quickly cross the boundaries of traditional politics and aesthetics and achieve extensive and profound transformations. However, foreign literary research in this latter period obviously switched to the Western model, thereby somewhat abandoning some of the fine traditions and academic paradigms that should have been adhered to. Of course, this is a big-picture approach to scanning. The specifics are much more complex.

"General History of Spanish and Spanish American Literature" is the first true general history of Spanish literature, and it is not limited to the Spanish language. This is because it originated from Spain as a relatively independent kingdom - the Visigoths, and has lasted for more than 1,500 years, spanning the two continents of Europe and the United States, involving twenty countries, plus the heritage of the ancient Mayan, Inca and Aztec civilizations. The five-volume general history consists of "Spanish Literature: The Medieval Period", "Spanish Literature: The Golden Century", "Spanish Literature: Modern Times", "Spanish American Literature: The Classical Period" and "Spanish American Literature: Modern Times". "Hispanic American Literature: The Classical Period" consists of literature from the ancient Indian period and the Spanish colonial period. The literature of the ancient Indian period mainly includes Mayan, Inca and Aztec literature; Spanish colonial literature began in 1492, when Columbus discovered America, and his logbook is considered the beginning of "New World" literature. During more than three hundred years of colonial rule, Spanish culture dominated Spanish America. At the beginning of the 19th century, the American independence movement and the French Revolution spread to Spanish America. Colonial writers opened the curtain of enlightenment, and the clarion call of the independent revolution resounded from north to south.

"Hispanic American Literature: Modern and Modern Times" shows the difficult journey of literature in nearly twenty Spanish-speaking independent countries from faltering and confusing to prosperous and even "exploding". After the independence revolution, the new country, which was full of waste and waiting to be revitalized, did not smoothly enter the development track. The struggle between civilization and barbarism, democracy and oligarchy never stopped. Then, the rediscovery of Indian literature, especially Indian myths and legends, catalyzed a new texture of Spanish American literature and activated the ancient genes of Spanish American writers. Today, the dust of the "literary explosion" has settled, but the Spanish-American literary scene is still active, and its international influence cannot be underestimated.
