In the historical and cultural context of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, the discipline and theoretical construction of Marxist literary theory in contemporary China is facing new historical opportunities. From November 1st to 4th, 2019, the 36th Annual Conference of the National Society for the Study of Marxist-Leninist Literary Theory and the Academic Seminar on "Historicity and Contemporaryness of Marxist Literary Theory" were held in Nanchang. This meeting was held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China and coincided with the successful conclusion of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee. The convening of this academic symposium and the publication of the collection of papers are of great theoretical significance and academic value for deepening the study of classic Marxist literary theory and criticism, especially the study of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important expositions on literature and art, and promoting the historical process of the sinicization of Marxist literary theory.
