This book is the oral history of Xie Chensheng, a witness and party involved in major decisions on my country's cultural relics undertaking. Among them, there are reviews of important historical events and major decision-making processes, as well as summaries and reflections on historical experience. This book comprehensively records Xie Chensheng's decades of personal experience in key positions in my country's cultural relics work: in the 1950s, he drafted a report by the Ministry of Culture recommending that the State Council protect the Beijing City Wall and the Xi'an City Wall; in 1967, regardless of safety, he wrote to the Central Committee and drafted a document for the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to protect cultural relics books. In the reform era, he insisted on "protection first" in cultural relics work and resisted the ideological trend of "nurturing cultural relics with cultural relics"; since the 21st century, facing the wave of real estate development and at the historical juncture of the preservation and destruction of ancient cities, he has fought against "bulldozers" and fully accelerated the legislative process for the protection of historical and cultural cities in my country.
