Wang Guowei in the late Qing Dynasty said in "Preface to the Examination of Operas of the Song and Yuan Dynasties": "Every generation has its own literature: the coquettishness of the Chu, the poetry of the Han, the parallelism of the Six Dynasties, the poetry of the Tang, the lyrics of the Song, and the music of the Yuan. They are all the so-called literature of one generation, and subsequent generations cannot succeed." This fully affirms the status of Yuan Sanqu in the history of poetry.
