This is a story about old Qingdao and old Dongzhen, as well as a story about China. It tells the story of a family's difficult journey from the late Qing Dynasty to the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, when the Germans occupied their land in Qingdao Village and forced them to move to Taitung Town to start a business. Taking the rough life of the protagonist Ding Guoyu as a clue, from the beginning of the German occupation of Qingdao, through the Japanese-German War, the May 4th Movement, the return of Qingdao, the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, and the end of the Japanese surrender, it panoramically shows the urban development trajectory of Qingdao. Guo Yu's growth and Di Niang's love run through the entire story, one strong and one soft, one bright and one dark, capturing half a century of Qingdao's ups and downs.
