Chapter 1 briefly describes the development of Western science fiction, including the definition, origin, iconic stages, representative writers and works of science fiction. Chapter 2 introduces the current status of science fiction novels in terms of ideological criticism, economic criticism, utopia\u002F dystopia research, and philosophical research on science fiction movies and television under the theoretical framework of Marxist literary criticism. Chapter 3 explores the value and significance of posthuman and posthumanist research in the interpretation of science fiction. Chapter 4 discusses the distinctive characteristics of this genre of narrative based on the application of time and space critical theories in the study of science fiction. Chapter 5 mainly introduces the research results achieved in science fiction narrative rhetoric, linguistic research, narrative trajectory and aesthetic research. Chapter 6 summarizes and looks forward to some noteworthy new trends in the study of Western science fiction novels, and analyzes the imagination of building a community with a shared future for mankind in Western science fiction novels in the new era.
