When I was a child, people in our countryside talked about Changzhi and called it Lu'an Prefecture. They said it was a very big place. In those days, transportation was inconvenient and few people in the village had ever entered the city. If someone came back from Lu'an Mansion and people gathered around him to listen to what he had seen, that person would be somewhat proud. In the early spring of 1953, when I was twelve years old, my uncle took me to Changzhi, and I left my hometown in Wuxiang at that time. When I set out on the road, I was very excited, but also confused, not knowing how far I would go. I climbed up slopes, climbed over beams, and walked through villages. The names of those villages were very interesting, such as "Zhangzhanggou" and "Luoluowa". By noon, my legs were sore and my excitement had long gone. I remember that I arrived at Xialiang Village in Xiangyuan County and stopped at a small roadside restaurant. I sat down and didn't want to get up.
