Clayton Rosen
(Rawson, 1906-1971) Creighton Rawson, a master of impossible crime stories, worked as a stage conjurer or, to be more precise, a magician, and later wrote a series of novels and short stories featuring Merlini. Melini is a magician who is often called upon by the police to help solve rare murder cases. The first work in the series, "Death from a Top Hat" (1938), was made into the movie "Miracles for Sale" (1939), describing a series of criminal incidents involving magic. This novel launched Rosen's second career as a writer and editor. Rosen and John Dixon Carr enjoyed challenging each other's creative abilities.
