It tells about the corner of Shaanxi where the author lived when he was a child, including folk customs such as cave dwellings, wheat fields, waterlogged ponds, hot kangs, ravines, old ladies with small feet, running water mats, open-air movies, Qin opera, shadow puppets, social fires, bellows, and stove firesides.
