Sun Menglei (1904.9.5-1937.4.5), Male, was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu. An early member of the Communist Party of China, a member of the Literary Research Association, and a famous writer in the 1920s. There are two main themes in Sun Menglei's creations: one is to accuse the cruelty and inhumanity of war and the huge suffering caused to innocent people; the other is to reveal the difficult living conditions of the people at the bottom. While reflecting the new literary trend of the May 4th movement, these works also initially formed his deep concern and sympathy for the suffering of the people at the bottom, his ruthless lashing of the dark social reality, and his literary creative personality that reflected "blood and tears", reflecting Sun Menglei's valuable realist character. The novel "Yinglan's Life" written and published in September 1927 made a useful contribution to the modern transformation of novels in new literature. It is not only Sun Menglei's masterpiece, but also an excellent work in which he practiced his "art for life" proposition. It is also an era symbol and important harvest of the novels of New Literature from 1922 to 1927. The novel has delicate descriptions, profound implications, compact plot, clear clues, well-proportioned and complete structure, and lifelike characters.
