An Outline of European and American Chu Ci Studies

The dissemination of "Chu Ci" to the Western world has important cultural exchange significance. However, due to language and geographical barriers, Chinese academic circles have limited understanding of this aspect. By comprehensively using a variety of literature retrieval methods, this book investigates and reads more than 300 kinds of literature and materials that European and American scholars have translated and introduced "Chu Ci", and conducts research on this basis. The book first divides the history of Chu Ci in Europe and America into three stages of development, traces the history of the Western translation of "Chu Ci", and examines the development characteristics of Chu Ci in different countries in different periods. Afterwards, six representative scholars were selected for case analysis, their academic research was compared horizontally with that of Chinese and Japanese scholars, and vertically examined in the history of research on "Chu Ci", in an attempt to demonstrate the unique insights and methods of Western scholars in the interpretation of "Chu Ci" and to evaluate their gains and losses.
