In the mental hospital, I met Li Jianshe, the only survivor of the ice plane crash twenty years ago. He told me that before the plane crashed, he heard a voice: "You can save all 136 people on board, at the cost of your life. Or, you can survive alone, at the cost of their destruction." He chose the latter. After being discharged from the hospital, he walked into the police station and surrendered because he could not bear the guilt of being a survivor. I thought it was just a hallucination caused by trauma, Until I discovered a second survivor who heard a voice in another unrelated disaster report.
