Shang, in the Zhou Dynasty documents, was first the name of the royal family that achieved dynastic status. It is the title of the country ruled by the Shang royal family. It is also used to refer to the civilization created by the people of Shang and other contemporaries. Shang is also used to refer to the era in Chinese history that was ruled by the Shang Dynasty. This book starts from five perspectives: traditional historical documents, bronzes, divine armor and bones, archeology, and theoretical models. Based on the known archaeological discoveries and documentary materials, this book strives to comprehensively present all aspects of Shang civilization.
