The photo of Pesi Ti Ti Rui Ling stared down at me sitting on the sofa. She looks about ten years old in the photo, four years younger than she is now. I've seen more recent photos of her and she's rapidly developing into a beautiful young lady. But when I think of her, I think of the gap-toothed child playing in what to her was the safest place in the world. I can see her opening gifts one after another on Christmas morning; I can see her playing with her puppy; I can also see her watching those cartoons. And I thought of everything that was to come: studying for final exams, introducing her nervous prom boyfriend to her parents, taking her children to visit her grandparents. I don't want to imagine my partner not going home. Detective Penny Moore handed me a cup of coffee and sat down next to me.
