London's Last Bookstore

(us) Madeleine Martin

In 1939, Hitler's forces swept across Europe, and "World War II" was about to break out. The young girl Grace and her friend Viv came to the London they dreamed of. By some strange combination of circumstances, Grace became a clerk at Primrose Hill Bookstore. Not a fan of reading, she met the handsome pilot George and started her reading journey with "The Count of Monte Cristo" recommended by him. During the Blitz, devastating attacks nearly reduced London to rubble. Viv went to the battlefield to join the army, and Grace also joined the team of air raid defense inspectors after work. In the rain of bullets, books gave her inner strength and comfort that she had never had before. She began to read to people, and the words brought people together, united as one, and supported each other. When they encountered air raids and power outages again and again, and had to sleep in subway stations at night, they followed the stories in the book to find the light in their hearts, and defeated the dark era of war-torn London. After the end of World War II, Grace's bookstore miraculously survived the storm, and she also gained a happy love and a career of her own. Her bookstore continues to warm and inspire thousands of readers, and people renamed it "London's last bookstore".
