Arrogant Due to Favor
General Fiction恃宠而骄
(us) Jesse Eisenberg
"Proud of Favor" is the representative play of actor, playwright, and novelist Jesse Eisenberg. The young protagonist appears to be extremely unpleasant on the surface, often making rude remarks and hurting others with harsh words; in fact, he has low self-esteem, is sensitive, fragile, and does not accept himself. He majored in directing, but was kicked out of graduate school because he had no works; he had no income and lived by chewing his old age; he bullied everyone around him, including his Nepalese roommate. When he discovers that his first love is going to marry a banker classmate, he sets out to destroy their relationship... The play focuses on the spiritual emptiness and disillusionment of the American elite white youth under the capitalist society. Through the mouths of other characters, it reveals the nature of interpersonal relationships after all disguises have been shed. In the year of publication, it was staged in New York and London respectively. The protagonist was played by the author. Other starring actors such as Kunao Nayyar also had masterpieces such as "The Big Bang Theory". The play won the Vision Fund Award from the Blanche and Owen Laurie Foundation and was recommended by critics in The New York Times.
