The story takes place in a small town in Maine, USA, in the 1970s. Robert Carter was introverted and shy, and had been bullied by senior students for a long time. After entering the eighth grade, a boy named Nathan Tilley moved to the town and became his classmate. The appearance of this boy completely changed Robert's original life. Nansen has everything Robert does not have: confidence, courage, enthusiasm, and forward thinking. He is obsessed with a free life, enjoys all new things, and can create happiness for himself and others. Two boys with very different personalities accompanied each other and experienced unprecedented happiness together. They also witnessed each other's families being shrouded in the haze of tragedy.
