The story begins in London during World War II, where two teenagers, Martin and Dovedore, became close friends of life and death. Dovidor is a violinist who has been exiled from Warsaw and lives in Martin's house. Together they wandered around the bombed-out London, exploring, discovering tragedy and comedy, sex and sin. That experience constituted the most unforgettable good time in their lives. However, on the night of the premiere of Dovedor's violin recital, he mysteriously disappeared. This incident became a knot in Martin's mind for decades. Through the story of Martin's search for Dovedore decades later, the novel cleverly interweaves the past and the present, revealing the life paths of the two protagonists, as well as the changes in the times and the desolation of the world reflected by their experiences. It is a song of humanity that sings three sighs at a time.
