Kim
General Fiction金姆
(uk) Rudyard Kipling
Kim, an orphan of an Irish soldier, had been wandering on the streets of Lahore since he was a child because both his parents died in poverty, making a living by begging and doing small errands. Sometimes Kim would run errands for a horse dealer who was actually a British intelligence agent. One day, a Tibetan lama came to Lahore, looking for a holy river that could help him escape the cycle of life and death. Lama's persistence moved Kim, so he set out, "If we are destined to find these things, we have to find them..." Kim's life changed accordingly... The novel is set between the second and third Afghan wars and is famous for the author's descriptions of Indian people, culture, and different religions. Some reviewers believe that "this book presents a vivid picture of India, with its numerous populations, religions, superstitions, markets and street life." In 1988, "Kim" ranked 78th among the 100 best English novels of the 20th century ranked by Modern Library. In the 2003 British BBC "Big Read" survey, "Kim" ranked as the "most loved novel".
