This book is the eighteenth volume of the Harvard Classics Series - "Modern British Drama". The "modern" referred to here refers to the era division method of the era in which the author of this book lived. Now called "classicism". "The Rumor School" is Sheridan's most famous comedy and an excellent example of British comedy. In this comedy, Sheridan contrasts the patriarchal morality of the "state of nature" with the moral corruption of the "civilized" upper class. He describes Sir Diesel, who married the daughter of a poor country squire who dreamed of entering the upper class. After arriving in London, she gradually became infected with some bad habits in the social circle, spent extravagantly, gossiped, and almost lost her virginity. Finally, she repented and reconciled with her husband.
