One winter holiday, 13-year-old Rebecca Shaw went to a mountainous area in central England with her parents but unexpectedly disappeared. Villagers, police, search and rescue teams, and divers searched for days and nights but found nothing. The incident was reported again and again on television news, but each time the content was the same. In the following 13 years, as the seasons changed and daily life returned, people imagined various possibilities regarding Rebecca's whereabouts. Her disappearance seemed to have become a shadow, deeply embedded in the fabric of daily life. The search has not stopped, but life in the village must continue, including love, hate, divorce, birth, old age, illness and death. Some people left the village, and some came back; some came together, and some decided to separate. In the past 13 years, babies have been born, old people have passed away, some secrets have become known to everyone, and some secrets will never be answered. Some people are desperate, and some are starting to make other livelihoods. There are small kindnesses, and there are unexpected betrayals. Bats still hang under the eaves of the church, herons pace the river bank, blackbirds swarm on the hawthorn trees, badgers and foxes feed, breed and fight in the depths of the woods... "Reservoir 13" is a novel that continuously accumulates the power of ordinary life. It spent 13 years exploring the rhythm of the natural world and the wonderful emotions between people, all of which unfolded in the aftershocks of a tragedy that happened to strangers.
