The Last of the Mohawks
General Fiction最后一个莫西干人
(u. S.) James Fenium Cooper
The outline of the story of "The Last of the Mohicans" is roughly as follows: The time has come to the late 1750s, and the war between the French and the Indians is going on in the virgin forests of western New York. The French army was violently attacking a stronghold called William Henry. This stronghold was originally built by the British and is currently occupied by Colonel Monroe. Colonel Monroe's daughters Alice and Clara came here from Edward's Castle to visit their father. They were led by Major Duncan Heywood through the dangerous jungle. Soon, a man named David Gamu joined in. This man named David Gamu had a loud voice, sang very well, and was also a follower of Calvinism. They hurried along cautiously, and they met a white boy scout halfway. The child's name was Hawkey. He was accompanied by two Indians, who were father and son. They were all members of the once great Mohican tribe. The Boy Scouts said that a guide named Magua betrayed the Mohican tribe and led them astray. The Mohicans were trying to capture the traitor, but he escaped.
