The Joy Luck Club
General Fiction喜福会
(u. S.) Amy Tan
"The Joy Luck Club" refers to the weekly mahjong gathering of four women. These four Chinese women from all over the world came to the United States with their own unhappy destinies, where they took root and gave birth to children. On the one hand, she is trying to adapt to life in a foreign land, and is confused and worried about how to deal with her relationship with her daughter; on the other hand, she is still disconnected from her motherland. They experienced their own happy or unhappy childhoods, and their young years were displaced by war. They were once young and ignorant. As a group of weak and tough women, they experienced all kinds of destinies, whether intentional or unintentional, ridicules in an era of feudalism and frequent wars. Although they are full of love in the end, various barriers inevitably form when facing the next generation whose growth environment and ideas are very different from their own.
