Summary of the content of "Survival and Destiny": On February 14, 1961, the Soviet authorities sent the KGB to break into the house of writer Vasily Grossman and "arrested" a novel manuscript. Suslov, who was in charge of ideology, judged it "more dangerous than Pasternak's "Doctor Zhivago"" and "cannot be published two hundred years later." This is "Survival and Destiny", and later people called it "War and Peace" in the 20th century. In this novel set against the backdrop of the Great Patriotic War, Grossman uses Tolstoy's grand layout and Chekhov's moving writing style to describe the brutal Battle of Stalingrad on the one hand, and the experiences of ordinary people, especially the Shaposhnikov family on the other, giving a panoramic view of Soviet social life during the Stalin period.
